Enjoy Music Talents - free fun in Amsterdam

As I keep being asked for affordable outings, here is another affordable (if not free) tip to enjoy Amsterdam. Inspired by the music fanatics at the last drinks, I am happy to introduce you to the Amsterdam Conservatory.

Students need stage experience; hence, concerts are given on a daily basis throughout the year. Visit the agenda and use this translator to understand what’s on. There are voorspeel avonden (performance evenings), open podium (open stage) and true (lunch) concerts.

Exams
The practical musical exam is open for an audience. It’s not just classical music in which students can graduate; the Conservatorium offers courses ranging from jazz to latin and popular music. Especially at the end of the year there are many exams for you to enjoy.

Master Classes
Almost every week there are master classes, all open for spectators. During a master class, the talented student performs a piece which (s)he has prepared, and the well-known master will give them advice on how to play it. Click to view the master classes. To be honest, I do not know any of the famous artists, but I can assure you that attending a master class will be an affordable and interesting outing.

As from April 21, 2008, Conservatorium van Amsterdam houses in a new building at the Oosterdokseiland, near Amsterdam Central Station. Address: Oosterdokskade 151. Most performances are free of charge, some require an entrance fee, typically not exceeding E10.
